U.S. Department of Energy soliciting advanced research projects

The U.S. Department of Energy ARPA-E conference is underway this week in Washington, DC, and with it is the announcement of a number of funding opportunities.  NYSTAR is serving as a point of coordination in New York State around coordinating and communicating these opportunities, listed below:

U.S. Department of Energy Advanced Research Projects Agency - Energy (ARPA-E)
Agile Delivery of Electrical Power Technology (ADEPT)http://www.nystar.state.ny.us/stimulus/DE-FOA-0000288.pdf
This FOA is primarily focused on the development of advanced component technologies, converter architectures, and packaging and manufacturing processes with the potential to improve the performance and lower the cost of power converters and power management systems.
Approximately $35 million will be made available for this program.
Concept paper due: April 2, 2010
Application deadline: Mid-May, 2010 - Exact date TBD

Building Energy Efficiency Through Innovative Thermodevices (BEETIT) http://www.nystar.state.ny.us/stimulus/DE-FOA-0000289.pdf
The focus of this FOA is to develop energy efficient cooling technologies/air conditioners (AC) for buildings to reduce GHG from: (a) primary energy consumption due to space cooling; and (b) refrigerants used in vapor compression systems.
Approximately $30 million will be made available for this program.
Concept paper due: April 2, 2010
Application deadline: Mid-May, 2010 - Exact date TBD

Grid-Scale Rampable Intermittent Dispatchable Storage (GRIDS) http://www.nystar.state.ny.us/stimulus/DE-FOA-0000290.pdf
This FOA is focused around supporting grid-scale electric energy storage technology research and development projects that are able to address the specific quantitative performance targets and cost metrics in the FOA. Proposed technical development plans must have well justified, realistic potential to credibly approach, meet or exceed the stated "Primary Technical Requirements" by the end of the period of performance for the proposed project in order to be considered for award.
Approximately $30 million will be made available for this program.
Concept paper due: April 2, 2010
Application deadline: Mid-May, 2010 - Exact date TBD
