In April, we had highlighted that 8 of the 50 New York Green Tech 50 companies had received financing since being named to the inaugural list of NY’s top clean tech companies. Since then, another 3 companies on the list have raised financing which means that more than 20% (1 in 5) companies on the list having gone onto raise financing since the awards were announced just 8 months ago.
Earlier this week, Honest Buildings raised $5.5 million in Series A funding from the Westly Group and RockPort Capital Partners. This brings the total raised by Honest Buildings to $7.5 million. The company which has become “a marketplace for building solution providers to showcase portfolios of their work and connect with people looking to build new buildings or upgrade existing ones” (per TechCrunch) has seen solid growth in the last five months originating $25 million of building contracts through their platform.
In May, Callida Energy, a smart building SaaS solution for commercial facilities was admitted into the DreamIt Ventures NYC program appropriately named DreamIt NYC.  DreamIt is a bootcamp/accelerator program for promising emerging technology companies.  Besides a small cash infusion, Callida will benefit from DreamIt’s mentors and investor access.  The program concludes with a pitch day and so we’re excited to see how Callida does at the all-important pitch day.  DreamIt NYC has also partnered with Comcast Ventures as part of their DreamIt Access program.  You can read more about DreamIt and Callida Energy here.
And rounding out the highlights was a May fundraise by Graphenix Development (formerly Graphene Devices) which raised a small portion of an eventual $1.5 million round the firm is hoping to raise (SEC filing). The company which has received grant support from NYSERDA, Army and Navy SBIRs, NYS Center for Advanced Technology and NYS Empire Development among others. The company develops commercial-scale production processes for advanced graphene-based energy storage, photovoltaic, conductive ink, and novel composites for game changing applications.
